Advent, Day 17: Return

Today's reading: Isaiah 35

when He comes
He will return us to health
(we
who are weary,
heavy-laden;
we
whose throats are parched,
whose hands are weak,
whose knees are unsteady;
we
whose hearts are full of fear)

when He comes
He will return us to joy
(we
whose blindness is absolute;
we
whose ears perceive only silence;
we
who cannot stand
yet cannot move
while the ground beneath us burns)

when He comes
He will return us to the Way
(we
who have lost our
sense of direction;
we
who have forsaken our path
for other, easier routes;
we
who need to be reminded
where we are)

when He comes
He will return us to singing
(we
who have very nearly
let sorrow
overcome our joy)

when He comes
(let it be soon)
He will return us
to Life
