into this bright and broken world,
scream, cry out, wail,
be fed;
learn who loves you;
find your family waiting
on this day
this dedication day
lay claim
to the heritage that is yours
(if not your father's name,
then his faithfulness;
if not your mother's people,
then her prayers)
on this day
this naming day
begin to become
who you are meant to be:
preparer, builder,
preacher, baptizer,
disciple, leader,
radical, kin
