September 13

These days, I've been learning...

... that even the most laid-back one-year-old will go a little haywire when he's breaking out six new teeth at once. *sigh*

... that, at a posh-enough hotel, staff can be extraordinarily kind and good-humored when you're chasing a wide-awake one-year-old around their lobby at 4:30 a.m. (And that even if you take a time-change gradually, a baby is still going to think 4:30 is 6:30 for several days). *sigh* again.

... that Southern California is cloudy and gray every. single. morning. (It eventually does turn blue and sunny and 72 degrees, but it seems to take all morning to get there.)

... that it is so cool when your child starts making wishes on the wishing star. (And even cooler when the wish comes true--and you didn't have anything to do with it.)

... that life is a labyrinth. (Okay, I'm not learning this "new," but being continually reminded of it.) That the path seems convoluted, turns in on itself, seems to threaten dead-ends... but gradually leads to the Center, and then back out into the World. One step at a time.

(Oh yeah, and I also learned that having a five-year-old watching and waiting while you walk the labyrinth is not the most meditative circumstance. "This is taking SO LONG. Are you done yet? Just step over to here instead.....")
